The weekend after Thanksgiving back home is usually a time for relaxing after having eaten the big meal on Thanksgiving Day, or for some, a mad rush to the stores to get the best deals on Christmas gifts. For us here, it was time for more celebration! We had the annual Festival of Nations for the Attache group here in Quito. We had such a good time admiring the traditional dress from other countries, learning about their customs and traditions, eating delicious foods from various countries, and of course, sharing a little bit of our culture with them! Most of the countries who have representatives to the Attache group were present...most from South America. Everyone had decorated a table, prepared food, and did a small presentation for the group (i.e. music, dance, slide show).
It's actually very difficult to represent our country in this way if you think about it. The US is such a melting pot of cultures and there is very little that is "just ours". Our group decided to go with an American Football theme...something from our culture that really is just ours! Most had donned their football jerseys, we served pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, cornbread, bread pudding, sweet tea, and Jack Daniels. For our presentation, the kids did a little football demonstration.

Also represented but not pictured were the groups from Columbia & Venezuela. It seemed like everyone had a really good time. At one point during the party, that part of Quito lost power for quite a while. That did not shut things down! The music went acoustic and the dancing kept going!
