It's April once again and that means...Birthdays for the Hilleary family! Last year we were displaced for their birthdays so this year, Shay & Malia really wanted to have a party to celebrate their birthdays with their friends here in Quito. We had a party all planned out and the kids were so excited...until our family got sick. Actually it was only Shay and Malia- the birthday kids! First, one got sick and we postponed the party...then a week later, the other got sick, and we had to cancel it completely. It was an awful 2 weeks. The kids were wiped out by the end. It was so hard to break the news to the kids after all the excitement and anticipation...they took it well, Mom did not. It broke my heart. But, we still found ways to celebrate and of course, we brought cupcakes to school!

We had a little celebration with her classmates and she was so excited to share her cupcakes with her friends.
Afterwards, we played games outside and Christian was so happy to have all the attention from the kids!
Happy 5th, Sweet Girl!
The tradition started early for Shay, but ever since his 2nd birthday, he has always requested a specific type of cake. When he was turning 2, Shay was obsessed with tractors and he told me that he wanted a "green tractor cake." I couldn't deny him that one request! Since then, he's requested a firetruck, a pirate ship, and astronaut cupcakes. Always a challenge, but it was something I enjoyed doing. There were a couple years in there where we weren't able to follow through for one reason or another. This year, after watching Despicable Me and Gru 2, he wanted all-things Minion. Thanks to Pinterest, I was able to deliver!
Shay's birthday celebration happened to coincide with Reading Week at his school. That day, the kids got to dress up as their favorite book character. it was a fun day for him...
Shay's enjoyment came from seeing his friends' excitement over the Minions.
