Over the past 2 years, it has been so neat to watch the kids grow. They adapted to life here quickly and they act like sponges, soaking up every experience. Between school and the embassy, Shay has gotten to try many different activities. This year, his interests in soccer and Cub Scouts have really taken off. There was a small group of scouts from the embassy who got together every couple of months. This spring they participated in a backyard campout, they held their Blue & Gold Banquet at the residence of the ambassador, and they participated in a Rain Gutter Regatta. As for soccer, Shay's school offers after school activities each semester. It was a great opportunity for him to try things like cooking & baking, karate, gardening, and to learn the game of soccer. This year being a "World Cup" year, was a perfect time for him to learn the game and if you ask his peers at school, soccer is life!
Back in high school, Brendan played the position of goalie for the soccer team. Once Shay found this out, in his mind, there was no better position! If you ask him to play, he will gladly volunteer to be goalie and he will proudly sport his goalie gloves- a gift from Daddy!
Shay was so excited for this campout. This was a first for him! They camped in the backyard of one of his fellow scouts. A few of the Marine security guards from the embassy even came to assist with some of the activities.
A few weeks after the campout, one of the Marines let Brendan know that they were going to be changing out the flag at the embassy. He thought the scouts would enjoy getting to see this special ceremony. They were more than excited to be included! Brendan worked with the boys to walk them through the ceremony show them how to give a proper salute when the Marines arrived on scene with the new flag.

The scouts held their Blue & Gold Ceremony at the ambassador's residence. Shay was so excited to finally receive the badges and belt loops that he had worked so hard to earn. But when it came time for the ceremony, all he could focus on was the swimming pool behind him! He couldn't wait to take a dip with his buddies.
The Ambassador and his wife are wonderful people and he was so generous to give up his Saturday morning to present the kids with their awards!
