Before Christmas Chaos

November was a busy month for us! Brendan and I attended the Marine Corps Ball again. It's an event that the Mairne Security Guards work very hard all year to plan. This year they held it at the Marriott here in Quito.

Shay was honored as one of the class Superstars and we were able to attend an assembly at his school where he was recognized for this.

Christian and I were able to travel back to the States for a short trip to visit family just before Thanksgiving. For Turkey Day, we hosted our neighbors at our house again this year. The kids had a good time helping with the preparation...

The first week of December is a big celebration for the founding of Quito. The flags fly all over the city and the kids do various programs and activities in school to celebrate this event.

Also in early December, I had the opportunity to visit a glass factory with a group of ladies from the embassy. We drove for about 45 minutes outside of the city and arrived at this house in the country. The glass is made and blown by a young guy and his brothers. Their father taught them the art and now they run the business from their home. They sell the glass out of a shed in their yard and they supply glass to various shops and businesses throughout Quito. Unfortunately, that day they weren't using the furnaces- I've always wanted to see glass being blown! They use recycled glass from old wine bottles to make some beautiful pieces.
